Reach Child and Youth Development Charitable Foundation has announced the appointment of Barbara Wallick as chair for 2012/ 2013.
Wallick has served on the Reach Foundation board as a director since 2010 and replaces Irene Forcier, foundation chair in 2010 and 2011.
"We are very fortunate to have Barb assume the role of chair of the Reach Foundation," said Rob VanSpronssen, president of the board of Reach Child and Youth Development Society.
"Barb brings local connections and a 'can do' attitude along with knowledge of, and commitment to, the goals of the Reach Society. We are indebted to Irene Forcier, the outgoing foundation chair, for her hard work and dedication over the last two years. Irene has been a driving force in our new building project and we wish her well."
Reach Charitable Foundation was created in 2010 to raise funds for the construction of a community-based child development centre for Reach Child and Youth Development Society. The $4 million "Building for Children Together" project is a partnership between Reach, the Kinsmen Club of Ladner Tsawwassen and the Corporation of Delta, which has provided land valued in excess of $1 million.
The new centre, which will be located next to the Ladner Pioneer Library, will make programs and services more accessible and provide greater space to serve more children and youth with special needs.
It will also have an expanded community events room, a club meeting space for the Kinsmen and space for other organizations in the community supporting children and youth with special needs.
Wallick, who resides in Langley with her family, is a financial planner and certified life coach. Her contributions in the community include volunteering with the Delta Chamber of Commerce golf tournament committee, Heart and Stroke Foundation and Ladner May Days parade as well as supporting causes such as B.C. Children's Hospital and United Way.
"I am excited to act as chair for Reach Child and Youth Development Charitable Foundation," said Wallick. "We are working hard in our fundraising efforts, and I look forward to the day we can all look back as a community with pride at our success."
Wallick is joined on the board by Jack Davidson, Tom Siba, Valerie Bartlett and Janette Guerreiro.
