The South Delta Probus Club will focus on local farming issues at its next meeting.
The monthly meeting will feature guest speaker John Savage, a local farmer, former provincial agriculture minister and president of the Delta Farmers' Institute.
"John has a real understanding of farming in this province, and will talk to us about the loss of farmland in Delta as these many planned projects proceed through the hands of Delta's administrators and potential developers of these lands," said club president John Ostaf.
Savage will provide the group with comments and insight into the issues related to port expansion and their effects on the farming community.
"John is clearly an expert in this area and this presentation is not to be missed by the citizens of Delta," he said.
The meeting, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the Coast Tsawwassen Inn, is free and open to all Delta residents.
Probus is a worldwide association of active retirees.
South Delta Probus offers its members the opportunity to learn from speakers on key issues. The association is non-political and non-fundraising, and allows members to enjoy fellowship and activities that stimulate both the mind and body.
