Tsawwassen artist Jeroen Vermeulen has picked an interesting way to get his work out there.

He’s had one of his large abstract paintings professionally wrapped around his 2008 S450 Mercedes.

“I think, for me, it was a way to bring my art to the public,” he told the Optimist.

People have been pointing at his car and coming up to talk to him about it, he said.

“It’s a real showstopper.”

Vermeulen, 70, described the art now adorning his car as a modern abstract piece and a Jackson Pollock-like painting.

The Rotary Club of Tsawwassen member, who’s also a national anthem singer for various Vancouver sports teams, said he’s been painting for 45 years and that his forte is large abstract paintings.

He had fashion photographer Lilian Tan take images of the painting, which measures eight feet by six feet, and then took the project to a custom vehicle wrap business in Tilbury.

Prima Graphics managing partner Tyson Longworth said the design stage took about a week and then it was a couple days for the actual installation.

“It was a smooth process and I think we’re all pretty happy with the finished product,” he said.
