UPDATE:
Delta police are investigating yet another accident on Ladner Trunk Road that has sent one person to hospital with serious injuries.
Just before noon Wednesday afternoon, police responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a van and a semi-truck.
According to Delta police public relations coordinator Sharlene Brooks, the van was travelling westbound and the semi-truck was travelling eastbound when the accident occurred.
“It is unknown how or who crossed over the line, but it appears to be a head-on collision,” Brooks said. “The driver and lone occupant of the van sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital via air ambulance.”
She said the driver of the semi-truck suffered minor injuries.
The road is shut down between 80th Street and 96th Street and will be closed for several hours as debris is cleared, a minor fuel spill is cleaned up and investigators try to determine what happened.
Already this year, Ladner Trunk Road has been the scene of three fatal accidents and numerous other serious injury-related crashes.
Brooks said it is up to drivers to be attentive at the wheel.
“While we try and affect behaviour of the drivers through enforcement and education, we don’t have control over the behaviour of drivers,” she said. “We need people to take charge of their responsibility to drive attentively. I’m not saying that these recent accidents are as a result of distracted driving because we just don’t know, but barring any medical association that could have happened, people need to be attentive. Do what is within your power to drive responsibly and slow down.”

A two vehicle crash on Ladner Trunk Road closed the road in both directions Wednesday, Delta police said via social media.
The incident involved a semi truck and a van, said police spokesperson Sharlene Brooks, adding that an air ambulance is responding.
The road is shut down between 80th Street and 96th Street, police noted.
Police are advising motorists to avoid the area.
