In the weeks leading up to this federal election, teachers at 26 schools in Delta are working with our young people as they participate in Student Vote. Student Vote is a parallel election for students under the voting age, coinciding with federal, provincial, territorial and municipal elections.

The purpose of Student Vote is to provide an opportunity to experience the voting process firsthand and to build the habits of informed and engaged citizenship.

At some schools, students have hosted all-candidates sessions, other classes have been going through campaign literature and party platforms in detail.

I encourage families to have a discussion with their children about what they have learned and to include them in your trip to the polls to show them democracy in action.

The board of education would like to convey our thanks to all of Delta's teachers for their efforts in creating our next generation of voters.
