As a Ladner resident, I am so proud of the Ladner Storm girls soccer team and their parents and supporters.
They all worked day and night to get votes in the Canada-wide BMO Team of the Week soccer contest. There were 15 teams from across Canada trying to be Team of the Week, the winner of which receives $125,000 towards playing field improvements in their community and $5,000 to their charity of choice.
The Storm's charity is B.C. Children's Hospital.
These girls were at SaveOn-Foods most days and at the Ladner Village Market on Sundays, encouraging all of us to sign up to vote so our community would receive this great gift.
Bouquets go out to SaveOn-Foods for its great support.
The voting has closed and we won't know the results until next week, but the Ladner Storm were giving big cities like Ottawa, Toronto and Winnipeg a run for the votes. As of closing, they were bouncing from second to first, and back again, with Ottawa.
I feel this team deserves the gold medal as it gave everything it had and more to get better facilities for field users in Ladner. Way to go girls, you are true winners in my eyes and all of us in Ladner are lucky you're in our community.
