Tsawwassen's Mary Seitz, along with her siblings, is starting a children's library in her hometown in the Philippines.

Seitz and sisters Donna Menor and Sharon Osea are working on the family project in honour of their late father, Dominador, an educator and author.

"He would love this," said Seitz, noting the children's library will be named after him.

Their hometown, Iriga City, didn't have a public library until four or five years ago, she said, adding it lacks a section for children.

Seitz has been visiting local thrift stores to get books for the project.

"I've been there every week, sometimes twice a week, going to Tsawwassen and Ladner and buying books," she said.

A few boxes of books have already been shipped to the Philippines. Seitz is going there in March to oversee things and hopes the children's library will open by June.

Seitz is accepting donations of kids' books to go towards the library.

Books can be dropped off at Beach Grove Laser, where she works, at 226-1077-56th St., Tsawwassen.
