The eighth edition of South Delta Minor Hockey's Party In Da House Tournament once again proved to be a hit on and off the ice.
A record number of supporters turned up at the Ladner Leisure Centre and Tilbury Arena to cheer on their teams over the four day event that features exclusively SDMHA recreational level teams
Besides tournament titles being awarded to the Warriors (Midget), Wolves (Atom) Kings (Pee Wee) and Warriors. There was plenty of other recognition that makes this more than a typical holiday hockey tournament.
The Hunger Challenge produced a record number of non-perishable items with a whopping 1,640 pounds being donated to the Delta Food Bank. The teams that generated the most donations received a gift certificate generously donated by the Boot and Sombrero Restaurant in Ladner. The winning teams were: South Delta #5 (Atom), South Delta #2 (Pee Wee), South Delta #2 (Bantam) and South Delta #2 and #4 (Midget).
The tournament also made a $500 donation to Canuck Place.
Sportsmanship was recognized on the ice with four teams earning awards - South Delta #6 (Atom), South Delta #5 (Pee Wee), South Delta #3 (Bantam) and South Delta #2 (Midget).
South Delta Minor Hockey president Jeff Scott also presented outgoing tournament organizer and founder Theresa Watts a plaque to recognize her outstanding contribution to the association the past eight years.
