With the return of their top sniper on the horizon, the Delta Islanders picked up a much-needed win in the provincial capital on Sunday night.

The Islanders snapped a three-game losing streak and moved back above the .500 mark in the B.C. Junior "A" Lacrosse League after a come-from-behind 13-12 win over the second place Victoria Shamrocks. Delta (6-5) returns to action on Saturday when the Port Coquitlam Saints visit Ladner at 7:30 p.m. in what should be the team's final game without Logan Schuss.

The Ladner standout, who produced 71 points in just 14 games last season, returns from his sophomore season at Ohio State University where he once again led the Buckeyes in scoring. Schuss should make his debut on June 18 when the Islanders host Victoria.

Ironically, it was another player with OSU connections who keyed the comeback win against the Shamrocks.

Victoria native Brandon McLean, who began his collegiate field lacrosse career at Ohio State before heading north of the border to McGill University in Montreal, scored two goals and finished with four points against his former team.

Delta led 5-1 after 20 minutes but the hosts stormed back to enjoy a 9-6 third period lead at one point. Goals by Mike Mallroy, Reg Ferguson and Jamie Malanfant tied the game, setting the stage for McLean's go ahead goal with 4:48 remaining. Mallory's second of the night, just 22 seconds later, proved to be the game winner.

Michael Berekoff and Mallory each finished with five points (2-3), while Cody Hawkins, Dan McDermott, Chris Jones and captain Ryan Keith also scored.

The win came on the heels of a 7-5 home floor loss one night earlier to the New West Salmonbellies.

The Islanders erased a 5-2 third period deficit with goals by Andy Taylor, Steve Higgs and Mallory. However, just 22 seconds after Mallory's tying goal, Brandon Goodwin put New West back in the lead for good with 3:05 remaining.

Delta also dropped a 17-7 decision to the first place and still unbeaten (10-0) Coquitlam Adanacs last Wednesday.

Mallory had a hat trick and two assists in a losing cause. Keith added three assists.

Wesley Berg blitzed the Islanders for nine points, including five goals.
