After competing against the province's best players in their respective age groups, six players from the Delta Minor Lacrosse Association have earned spots on Team B.C. and a chance to play in the upcoming national championships. Chalane Morrison (bottom row, left to right), Tessa Vincent and Savannah Phillips will be playing in New Westminster starting July 24 at Queen's Park Arena. Riley Phillips (top row left to right), Jonathan Phillips and Justin Smith will be off to Whitby, Ont., from July 31 to Aug. 6.

The Delta Islanders opened their second round B.C. Junior "A" Lacrosse League playoff series against the New Westminster Salmonbellies with an 8-3 loss Wednesday at Queen's Park Arena.

The Salmonbellies took a 4-0 lead into the second before adding two quick power play goals in the first minute of the middle frame.

Delta's Logan Schuss scored twice while Mike Mallory had the other marker for the Islanders. Blake Duncan made 41 saves for Delta.

Mark Negrin and Leif Mydske each scored twice for New Westminster while their teammates Tyler Digby and Justin Salt enjoyed identical five point nights (one goal, four assists). Frank Scigliano stopped 27 shots for the win.

The best-of-five series shifts to Ladner tomorrow night with Game 2 set for 8 p.m. at Ladner Arena.
