Delta will be wellrepresented on the Vancouver Coastal team heading to Abbotsford this week for the B.C. Summer Games.
The contingent of over 70 athletes were given an official send off by the Delta Sports Council on Monday night at the 120 Pub in North Delta.
Special guest was Robert Esmie, a member of Canada's gold medal 4x100 relay team at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. That victory is considered one of the greatest achievements in Canadian sports history.
The B.C. Summer Games will have close to 4,000 athletes competing in 18 sports. This is the 30th Summer Games. They were first held in Penticton in 1978.
The Vancouver Coastal team (Zone 5) features athletes from Delta, Richmond, Vancouver, North Shore, Squamish and Whistler.
