It was a standout finish close to home for Charlie Derrheim when the Maple Leaf Golf Tour’s Mini Tour made a stop at Tsawwassen Springs on Sunday.

The event attracted 72 players from ages five through 12, which together with the wait-list eclipsed the previous record set a few weeks back.  The tournament also shortlisted players for the US Kids Golf World Championship at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina, August 2-4.

Competing in the Boys 11-12-Year-Old Division, Derrheim finished two strokes back of Vancouver’s Aaron Huang who carded a 3-over 73. The son of longtime Beach Grove Golf Club head professional Brent Derrheim and former Canadian Amateur champion Tracey Lipp-Derrheim was two shots clear of third place finisher Nathan Szpakowicz, also of Vancouver.

Other age group winners included Sky Sun shooting a 72 from the gold tees to win the Boys 9-10 Division. He is now shortlisted for the US Kids World Championship.

So is Girls 9-10 Division winner Anna Huang after she fired a 76 to win her age group.
