The first period trend continued on Thursday night at Sungod Arena except this time it was the Delta Islanders doing the damage to pull even in the B.C. Junior "A" Lacrosse League championship series.
Having been outscored 21-7 in the opening period of four consecutive losses to the Coquitlam Adanacs this season, the Islanders finally returned the favour, scoring five unanswered goals en route to a 10-8 victory.
The best-of-seven affair continues Monday night at the Coquitlam Sports Centre before shifting back to Sungod Arena on Wednesday at 8 p.m. for game three.
In perhaps their best 20 minutes of the season, the Islanders were outstanding at both ends of the floor, especially defensively two Adanac power plays and received spectacular goaltending from Peter Dubenski with 18 saves. Much off the offence damage was done by third-year standouts Logan Schuss as they each scored twice in the pivotal frame.
Coquitlam would get no closer than two goals the rest of the night despite firing 62 shots at Dubenski.
Mallory finished with three goals and four assists. Schuss had four goals and two assists, while rookie Eli McLaughlin added a pair. Ryan Watson also scored.
