The Ladner Boys Soccer Club lives on in other parts of the world.
The club is no longer in operation after merging with Tsawwassen and Ladner Girls to form South Delta United. That left over 500 kits with Ladner Boys alone that were suddenly outdated. Headed by longtime coach and volunteer John O'Neil, the uniforms are being put to good use elsewhere.
O'Neil provided some sets to Surrey's Regent Christian Academy which sent a small team of senior age students and three teachers to Uganda earlier this month.
The purpose of the trip was working alongside the "Father's Heart Mobility" mission organization to help assemble and distribute wheelchairs and crutches to the disabled and disadvantaged in the regions surrounding.
Near the end of the trip, while visiting the African Children's Choir Primary school in Entebbe, the RCA team gave the soccer uniforms and other equipment donated by South Delta United to the school's headmaster - Mr. Masika. They were also given to Bethany Village Orphanage - an initiative of African Renewal Ministries based in Ggaba.
The RCA group visited the African Children's Choir Primary School and were able to present the uniforms to the primary 6 class who stood in as representatives of their school. The school was excited to wear their new kits to a tournament that very week. Last year, an RCA contingent travelled on a similar mission to Uganda and also brought Ladner soccer uniforms. More will be donated for upcoming trips to Nicaragua and Paraguay.
