Ladner lacrosse standout joins Mammoth coaching staff

Ladner native Andrew McBride enjoyed a stellar 13-year career in the National Lacrosse League with the Calgary Roughnecks and now calls the Alberta city his home where he has had a significant role in lacrosse development.

One of the finest players to ever come out of Delta is taking his coaching career to the National Lacrosse League.

Andrew McBride has been named an assistant coach for the coming season with the Colorado Mammoth where he will be working with head coach Pat Coyle. 

The Ladner native spent his his entire 13-year NLL career in Calgary as a defenseman, leading the Roughnecks as captain for five seasons. 

Twice an NLL champion (2004, 2009) and twice an NLL All-Star (2008, 2011), McBride amassed 87 career points (19G, 68A) and 711 career loose balls in 198 regular season games; he also holds the franchise record for regular-season games played.

Since retiring, McBride has made Calgary his home for his young family where he has had a major role in the development of lacrosse, including coaching at the junior “A” level with the Okotoks Raiders.

“It has been a life-long dream of mine to coach the best lacrosse players in the world. I look forward to working tirelessly to bring a championship to the Mile High City and the Mammoth organization.

“Colorado is a world-class city and organization. I have immense respect for (general manager) Dan Carey and Pat Coyle and I can’t thank them enough for this amazing opportunity.”

McBride played minor box lacrosse with the Delta Islanders and signed a junior "A" contract to play with the New Westminster Salmonbellies where he was a standout from 2000-03.

He was inducted into the Delta Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
