After a year of hard work, commitment, and fun, the South Delta Pee Wee Outlaws hockey team went on an amazing undefeated streak at the 2012 Sheraton Spring Classic Tournament in Richmond.
The Outlaws won seven consecutive games to take top honours.
After dominating the opposition in round robin play with a cumulative score of 28-5, the Outlaws defeated Richmond Steel 6-1 in the quarter-finals. A hard-fought 5-3 win in the semi-finals against the Cloverdale Blazers gave South Delta a berth in the championship game.
Despite a short bench and tired line-up, the Outlaws outworked the Langley Jets in an exciting 4-2 battle to capture the gold medal. A true team effort was evident throughout the entire tournament with everyone contributing to the squad's eventual success. The boys were also recognized as the Spring Classic's Most Sportsmanlike team.
The Outlaws were backstopped by their stellar goaltender Brody Harris, along with the solid defensive crew of Austin Christopherson, Neil O'Connor, Ryan Moody, and Ryan Sawyer. A strong showing by the forwards at both ends of the ice was also a contributing factor. They included Téo Ardanaz, Marcus Beaulieu, Luke Fulton, Jared Garcha, Griffyn Harker, Riley Sherwin, Riley Varhaug, and Cameron Williams. The team missed two important players who were unable to participate in the tournament - Marcus Chiasson and Evan Hixt.
The Outlaws' coaching staff was led by Phil O'Connor with assistants Nick Ardanaz, Randy Fulton, and Murray Sherwin. The team families extend their appreciation to manager, Harraj Garcha, who kept everyone informed and organized during the entire year.
