SDU spring grassroots program a hit on and off the field

275 young soccer players participate in eight weekly sessions at Winskill Park

South Delta United wrapped up another highly successful spring grassroots program with 275 players attending eight Wednesday night sessions on the grass at Winskill Park.

The energetic young players not only further developed their technical ability in a fun environment under SDU staff, headed by Grassroots Head Coach Jon Rogers, but also dovetailed into the club’s cultural initiatives by running a concession.

Led by the efforts of Lily and Charlie Rogers, along with Grace and Ella Vandereerden, the concession raised over $600 by the end of the spring season which will be donated to the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation.

They were inspired by the story of Tsawwassen’s own Taylin McGill — B.C. Children’s Hospital Champion Child for 2017 who is also school mate and family friend.

Next up for the club is its annual Summer Skills Camp, led by SDU Head of Player Development Russ Heggie. It runs from July 9-13 on the turf at Dugald Morrison Park from 9-11 a.m. and is open to boys and girls born from 2005-to-2014.

Registration for the 2018-19 fall and winter season is also underway.
