South Delta Secondary made school history Saturday when it won a pair of provincial championship banners on the same day.

The football Sun Devils capped an unbeaten season with a 31-17 victory over the Mission Roadrunners at B.C. Place Stadium to capture the "AA" title.

Thirty minutes after the football team had received the championship trophy, the Sun Devils senior girls volleyball team was bringing the curtains down on its spectacular season in Port Coquitlam with a thrilling five set gold medal match against Heritage Woods.

It was the Tsawwassen school's second football title in five years, but marked the first-ever provincial senior girls volleyball crown.

South Delta swept the individual hardware in the football game with receiver/safety David Mann (Most Valuable Player), quarterback Kyle Menzies (Outstanding Back) and Rene Sencio (Top Lineman) all honoured.

In volleyball, setter Emma Robinson was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Grade 10 twin standouts Megan and Nicole McNamara were named to the first all-star team.
