An outstanding spring for South Delta Secondary athletes also includes success on the golf course.

The Sun Devils are Fraser Valley senior boys champions for the first time in recent memory after edging out Langley’s Walnut Grove for top honours last week at the Chilliwack Golf Club.

SDSS’s four player gross aggregate score of 286 was highlighted by Jace Minni and John Morrow each shooting 1-under 71s to finish tied for third in individual scoring. Adrian Murray and Russell Howlett were right behind them with 72s. Zach Sherwin also shot an 82.

The win comes on the heels of South Delta capturing the annual Delta Police Tournament which included rounds at King’s Links in Ladner and Northview’s ridge course in Surrey.

Again, the Devils held off Walnut Grove, with Minni taking top individual honours with back-to-back 69s. Morrow finished right behind him (70-69).

It’s these results that make them one of the favourites at the upcoming B.C High School Championships, slated for June 5-6 at the Nanaimo Golf Club.

The future looks bright too with Minni, Murray and Howlett all in Grade 10. Morrow is the lone Grade 12 on the team, while Sherwin is in Grade 11.

Their competitive schedule goes beyond the high school season as junior members of the Beach Grove Golf Club. Minni, Morrow, Murray and Howlett have all enjoyed success in zone 4 tournaments.

Minni recently won an event at Marine Drive with a round of 70. That came a day after he finished tied with Murray for top spot at Point Grey, shooting 74s. Howlett had his best result of the season on the weekend at the Vancouver Golf Club in Coquitlam, shooting 71 to finish tied for fifth.

Morrow has been a consist top five finisher in most zone 4 events.
