All eyes are on the Fraser River this week as water levels are expected to peak again.

Delta's director of engineering, Steven Lan, told civic politicians Monday night that due to heavy rain and warmer temperatures, another peak flow is expected by Friday.

Last week, after significant rainfall in the Upper Fraser Basin and North Thompson, the B.C. River Forecast Centre issued a high streamflow advisory for the Fraser River from Quesnel to the ocean.

The river peaked last week at around 10,000 cubic metres per second at Hope, which is similar to levels seen last year. However, Lan said the second peak this week is expected to hit around 12,000 to 13,000 cubic metres per second.

"Staff are prepared and we've already started daily dike patrols," he said.

Delta's system consists of more than 60 kilometres of dikes, which surround the entire lowland area.

Earlier this week, a flood warning was issued for Prince George and the City of Chilliwack issued an evacuation alert for residents living on properties outside of the municipality's dike system. The alert affects 200 properties and 42 homes.
