One person is dead after an early morning fire in Tsawwassen.
Delta fire crews were called to an apartment building at 5521 16th Avenue just before 2 a.m. Friday.
A fire was in progress in the upper level of the two-storey building. Deputy chief Ken Sim said when fire crews arrived on scene one unit was fully involved. There were explosions on either side of that unit, he said, but crews managed to contain the fire to just three suites.
One person was found dead in one of the apartments.
About 60 residents of the 40-unit building were evacuated and are temporarily being housed in an emergency reception centre at the South Delta Recreation Centre.
The cause and origin of the fire is currently undetermined.
A joint task force between Delta's fire and police departments is currently investigating.
More to come.
