The suspect in the fatal stabbing on Tsawwassen First Nation land last Friday is expected to make his first court appearance today.
On Monday morning, Delta police spokesperson Const. Ciaran Feenan said the 17-year-old was formally charged with second degree murder and attempted murder over the weekend and is expected to appear in court later in the day.
Police were called to the 1700-block of Tsawwassen Drive at around 10 p.m. Friday. Upon arrival, officers discovered two teenage girls suffering from stab wounds lying on the ground. Both were treated at the scene and transferred to hospital. The 16-year-old victim succumbed to her injuries while the 15-year-old girl was listed in critical condition.
Feenan said Monday morning that her status has been updated to stable and she is expected to survive.
Early Saturday morning police said investigators were looking for a known suspect who was also known to the two victims. At about 11 a.m., officers took the 17-year-old male into custody without incident.
Due to his age, the name and any details about the suspect cannot be released. Police are also not releasing the names of the two victims at this time.
