As summer sunshine begins to peak through, many of us are heading outdoors to enjoy nature along with entertainment and sporting events in our parks.

Let's not forget that many of our Delta parks were only preserved after considerable dedicated grassroots citizen support and political will by our leaders.

But the task is never finished, because another historic green jewel - the Kwantlen section of Paterson Park racetrack (Ladner Trunk Road and Highway 17) - is still in need of protection.

I understand hundreds of Delta citizens have already signed a petition advocating for public ownership of Paterson Park. But as is often the case, the louder the voice, the more leaders are likely to take notice.
