ART ON THE FARM
Art on the Farm is a community art event in Chilliwack on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In its fifth year, this funky, family-oriented event takes place on the hobby farm in the beautiful Columbia Valley (just past Cultus Lake). Artists will set up with their craft in the apple orchard, through the hazelnut grove, and around the farm. This year's Art on the Farm will feature pottery, blacksmithing (and demo), glass beads (and demo), handmade children's clothes, quilts, knitting, spinning, pastels, paintings, jewelry, papier mache, woodworking, handmade soap, cards, Artcars, and more. The Chilliwack School of Performing Arts will perform their theatre under the trees at the farm as will local guitar and saxophone musicians and the gypsy ragtime Vancouver band Blackberry Wood. Food will abound with u-pick blackberries, homemade pies and chili, yummy salsas, jams and chutneys. VEDDER LEGION IN AUGUST
It's always a good time at Vedder Legion Branch 280, especially in August. Every Friday and Saturday dance to live bands from 8 p.m. until midnight. On Aug. 14 and 15 it's Solowan Sound. On Aug. 21 and 22 it's Runaway. The month ends with Sweetwater Aug. 28 and 29. Every Monday Branch 280 has drop-in fun darts with toe line at 8 p.m., and on Tuesdays Euchre begins at 6:45 p.m. The kitchen features hamburger night on Tuesdays starting at 4:30 p.m. until the start of euchre. Every Thursday the kitchen has dinner specials from 4:40-6:30 p.m.
PARK PARTY MUSIC LINEUP
Central Community Park hosts great local entertainment on stage at Party in the Park each Friday night from 7-9:30 p.m. Tonight, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. it's James Knight followed by a Tractorgrease variety show featuring Todd Richard and the Reluctant Cowboys. On Aug. 21, it's No Time Flat, Soundscape, and Stephen Toon. The grand finale of Party in the Park will be Aug. 28.

Back again are summer concerts and activities with Music and More every Wednesday until Aug. 26 at noon at Salish Park and 7 p.m. at Central Community Park. Deadline for submissions to the Friends of the Chilliwack Library photo contest is Aug. 21 at 5 p.m. The categories are seasonal/places and people/animals and photographers will be divided into age groups: under 11, 11 to 16 and 16 to adult. All entries will be judged Aug. 22 and will be displayed at the library Aug. 24 to 31. Photographs will not be returned. ALICE AUDITIONS
Remember Cinderella up the Beanstalk? Well this Christmas, Chilliwack Players Guild is delighted to present their second Christmas pantomime, Alice in Wonderland, and auditions are this month. Auditions for children aged six to 16 will be Aug. 30 at 2 p.m. For teens and adults, auditions will be held on Aug. 30 and 31 at 7 p.m. They are looking for eight children and 20 adults.
