Fantasy Gardens, a new exhibition at the Richmond Art Gallery, features the work of Neil Wedman and Ladner's Stuart McCall.

Wedman, a well-known local artist, spent many hours in the courtroom during Bill Vander Zalm's Fantasy Gardens trial in 1991, producing portraits of all the players in what was at the time a gripping political drama.

McCall, a photographer, had often wondered about the state of the neglected garden at the old and abandoned Fantasy Gardens site. So one day he hopped the fence and spent many hours wandering the property, taking photographs of what had become an amazing tangled web of plants and statuary.

"The photographs reflect the demise prior to redevelopment of a once upon a time tourist attraction tainted by political controversy and changing economics," the gallery's website states.

Wedman and McCall have worked together on various photo-based projects since the 1990s.

The exhibition opened last week and runs until April 1 at the Richmond Art Gallery, 7700 Minoru Gate.

The gallery's website notes McCall and Wedman will be there for an Artists' Tour & Talk on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 1 to 2 p.m.

The gallery's regular hours are:

. Monday to Friday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Thursdays to 9 p.m.)

. Weekends: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
