Liberals set date to pick candidate

The B.C. Liberals will select their candidate for Delta South at a nomination meeting that has been set for January.

Riding association president David Fredricksen confirmed the candidate selection would be held Jan. 22 at the Delta Town & Country Inn.

He said under the party's constitution, those eligible to vote at the nomination meeting must have been party members for at least 21 days. That would mean those wanting to take part in a vote would have to become a Liberal member by Jan.1. However, due to the holiday season, Fredricksen said the party executive might decide to extend the deadline.

The only declared candidate at this point is Tsawwassen resident Bruce Fougner, who announced his candidacy in October.

Delta Chamber of Commerce president Kelly Guichon indicated interest in the Liberal nomination over a year ago but has not officially entered the race.
