The Burnaby Lakers put in a long-distance call when it came to filling their vacant head coaching job for the 2020 Western Lacrosse Association season.

The New England Black Wolves' Glenn Clark answered.

The Lakers posted the news of Clark's hiring on their website last month.

The soon-to-be 50-year-old will take over the helm from Peter Tellis, who handed in his resignation in September after his second season behind the bench.

Clark's lacrosse resume includes skippering Team Canada to the FIL Indoor Lacrosse world championship title in September in Langley.

He's been the head coach of the Black Wolves since 2015, after a three-year stint behind the Toronto Rock bench that began in 2006 upon his retirement as a player.

Behind New England's bench, the Pickering, Ont. native has racked up a 36-36 record during the regular season. Among the players on the team's current roster are current Laker Tyler Digby, plus a pair of New Westminster Salmonbellies, netminder Alexis Buque and Anthony Malcom.

During his playing days, Clark captured a Mann Cup ring as a junior call-up with the Brooklin Redmen in 1990, and in his lone season in the Western Lacrosse Association was part of Coquitlam's defence which captured the national title in 2001 at the PNE Coliseum.

Burnaby finished 10-7-1 in 2019, missing the playoffs in the final game of the season.
