I am seeking re-election for a fourth term as a Delta School Board trustee.
I offer experience, commitment and a track record of leadership. My pledge is to do the hard work it takes for our school district to continue to be the envy of the province.
I am a retired teacher and taught for 33 years at North Delta Secondary. My teaching experience combined with 11 years on school board has given me an advantage as a school trustee. I understand the system from the “inside out.”
I have developed a deep understanding of the policies and regulations of the Delta School Board. I am aware of staffing procedures, funding concerns and parental issues. As your trustee, I have served as the board’s representative on the: Delta Youth Activity Council, Emergency Preparedness Committee, Indigenous Enhancement Committee, British Columbia Public Schools Employer’s Association, and Board Audit Committee. I am proud that we have one of the highest graduation and academic achievement rates in the province.
During the pandemic, the Delta School Board faced a challenging situation and COVID-19 continues to be a reality, which requires experienced leadership. I am committed to continue the hard work and dedication needed to keep our schools open and to provide our students with the best in-class instruction.
My wife Jeannie, an elected City of Delta councillor, and I have lived and worked in Delta for over 40 years. My lifelong commitment has been the education of the students of Delta. I have worked with the parents, teachers, and staff to ensure the highest quality learning experience in our schools. My door is open, and I will work with you to continue the success of our School District for all.
I seek your support Oct. 15, please re-elect trustee Nick Kanakos and trustee Bruce Reid. “Independents Working for You”
What are your election issues:
As a Trustee with experience and commitment, I will work with the board to address the following three key issues:
COVID-19 and beyond:
It is important to continue and improve on the collaborative approach developed by our education community regarding the unique challenges the pandemic posed for us all. Drawing on the leadership of district staff, the Parent Advisory Committees, parents, teachers, and support staff, going forward we must continue to provide healthy, safe, and inclusive schools in a post COVID era. We must work to bring parents back into the schools, in person, as full partners in the education of their children.
Keeping Delta No. 1 in B.C.:
Over my three terms as trustee, the Delta School District has achieved one of the highest graduation and scholastic achievement rates in the province. At the elementary level, Delta students continue to achieve high levels of literacy and numeracy. Our district continues to demonstrate athletic achievements and our sports teams, and extra-curricular programs - make us proud. I will continue this work towards excellence and support all in improving our students’ overall performance and school experience.
Partnerships that move us forward:
I have witnessed first-hand the discrepancy between the funding allocated by the Ministry of Education and the needs outlined by the Delta School District. At every opportunity, I have pressed for more funding and will continue to do so. Our partnerships with the federal, provincial, and municipal governments are key in enhancing programs and our sports fields. I will advocate for more funds and partnerships as this would: improve student performance, improve health and safety opportunities, improve support for special needs students, and allow all students to reach their full potential.

On Oct. 15, please re-elect Nick Kanakos and Bruce Reid.
