A theatre night fundraiser next month will benefit the Ladner United Church's building restoration fund.

Ladner's Gwen Crowe, a theatre veteran, is organizing the fundraiser, set for Wednesday, March 12 at Metro Theatre in Vancouver. The theatre is presenting There Goes the Bride, a British comedy farce and mini-musical.

"It's a very, very funny and very fast paced farce/drawing room comedy/musical," said director Catherine Morrison, who lives in Ladner.

The play is set in the late '60s or early '70s, she noted.

"The morning of his daughter Judy's wedding doesn't go as planned for workaholic Tim Westerby: When Tim gets a knock to the head, the resulting concussion causes hallucinations that begin with the appearance of a 1920s flapper named Polly," states a Metro press release.

A second knock to the head leads Tim to believe he's Fred Astaire, and that Polly is his Ginger Rogers.

Morrison said three other people from Ladner are involved with the play: lighting designer and general manager of Metro Theatre Les Erskine, set decorator and publicist Tracy-Lynn Chernaske and Harry Seddon, who's doing a voice-over as the vicar.

Metro Theatre is at 1370 SW Marine Dr., Vancouver. Tickets are $25. For more information contact Crowe at 604-952-0270 or the church office 604-946-6254.

There Goes the Bride runs from Feb. 22 to March 22. Visit metrotheatre.com for show times and more information.
