Tom Bearss
Tom Bearss, President of the Delta Naturalists’ Society (DNS), leads a weekly outing of casual birders to various destinations, mostly to birding hotspots in the BC lower mainland. He, or another DNS member, writes a report on each outing of these Delta Nats Casual Birders (aka DNCBers) which you can see on this Optimist blog. You can also see past reports, photos and other information on the Delta Nats on their website at: www.dncb.wordpress.com. DNCB outings are free and open to anyone to participate. They are currently on Tuesday mornings, meeting at and leaving from Petra's by L'Aromas in Tsawwassen at 7:30 a.m. Future outing destinations and outing changes can be seen on the DNCB website.
Bearss is a retired Canadian Trade Commissioner/diplomat who has been a “casual birder” and naturalist for 30+ years. He was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario and has lived in and/or travelled to many parts of the world (e.g. New York, Western Australia, Trinidad & Tobago, South Africa, etc.), but chose to retire with his family in Ladner in 2006. He currently stays active with the DNS, leading bird outings, playing hockey and golf, and especially grand parenting his 2-year-old granddaughter. He lives with wife Sandra of 42 years, and their two children Scott (39) and Erica (36) also reside nearby in Delta.
