Security video shows a suspect in the theft of a luxury stroller in Surrey last month that was later posted for sale in Burnaby.

Burnaby RCMP is urging the public to take steps to protect packages and deliveries this holiday season after a porch pirate in a stolen Mercedes grabbed a $1,500 stroller off a porch in Surrey and then posted it for sale online in Burnaby.

An Amazon package containing the stroller was stolen from the front doorstep of a Surrey home on Nov. 24, according to a police press release.

Part of the theft was caught on security video, the release said.

The video shows a vehicle with its trunk already open pulling up to a doorstep.

A woman then jumps from the vehicle, grabs a large box from the porch and jams it into the car.

The following day, the victim of the theft noticed what she believed to be the same stolen stroller for sale on an online marketplace, according to police.

Police determined the listing was based in Burnaby, and Burnaby RCMP identified a male suspect.

On Nov. 26, a search warrant was executed at that suspect’s Burnaby home, and police located the stroller, still in its original box, and a stolen Mercedes Benz used in the theft, according to the release.

“Our prolific offender suppression team worked quickly and was thankfully successful in being able to reunite the victim with her stolen stroller,” Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj said. “In this case, even a security camera system wasn’t enough to deter thieves. We are urging everyone to take precautions with deliveries over the holidays.”

Police are still working to identify the female suspect seen in the surveillance video.

She has tattoos on both hands.

Anyone with information on her identity is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999. Quote file number 21-41250.
