John Horton
Artist John Horton is featured at this weekend's Faces of the Fraser.

Marine painter John Horton will be sharing stories and art about the Might Fraser at this month’s Faces of the Fraser event.

During the virtual event that’s taking place on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Horton will be sharing some of his paintings, as well as stories of the Fraser River using maps, diagrams and photos of commercial activities.

“As a marine painter, John combines artistic talent with a focus on historical accuracy to produce paintings of stunning and photorealistic detail,” said Stephen Bruyneel, director of external relations and development at Fraser River Discovery Centre. “We are privileged to have John join us virtually to share some of his works, which are prized by museums, art galleries, and private collections across the globe.”

Horton is a member of the Canadian Society of Marine Artists, the Federation of Canadian Artists and the Honourable Company of Master Mariners of Canada.

“In addition to his artistic talent, Mr. Horton also brings with him close to 40 years of combined search and rescue experience on the river. Currently, he pilots the historic ex-U.S. Navy vessel, Delta Lifeboat, assisting mariners in distress and providing volunteer training as a member of the Canadian Lifeboat Institution,” said a press release from Fraser River Discovery Centre. “His time spent on the Fraser has given him in-depth knowledge of the river and its people, boats, and bustling economy.”
