It’s coming down to the wire for this year’s Plant a Row – Grow a Row program – but you still have a chance to help.
Now in its 21st year, the program collects donations of fresh produce, either homegrown, or store-bought. Volunteers later deliver the donations to the Union Gospel Mission, which uses it for food served at the mission or distributes it to community members, including women’s shelters and families.
Collections began on June 21, with the final two collections taking place on Sunday, Sept. 20 and 27.
“We have just two more Plant A Row Sundays for 2020, so please drop off fresh home grown or store bought food donations Sunday, Sept. 20 and 27th,” said a notice from the program. “Your food donations show that you care for those in need.”
Donations can be dropped off on Sunday mornings from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. at the front entrance of St Thomas More Collegiate, 7450 12th Ave. – just across the border in Burnaby. If you wait by the curb, volunteers will come and take your donation – following safety precautions and social distancing guidelines.
