Burnaby mommy-daughter duo start DIY business out of COVID boredom

Megan Kai might only be 11 years old, but she wants to make something clear: she’s the big boss lady of a new home-based business. Not her mom Cherie. Lol. The Burnaby mommy-daughter duo have started up Wood + Stencil Co.

Megan Kai might only be 11 years old, but she wants to make something clear: she’s the big boss lady of a new home-based business.

Not her mom Cherie. Lol. The Burnaby mommy-daughter duo have started up Wood + Stencil Co., which makes and sells DIY craft kits and pre-made signs for anyone who wants to unleash their crafter within. These DIY craft kits come with everything you need to make a craft

“This business started during the infamous COVID-19 pandemic,” says Megan. “During COVID, I’m sure I wasn’t the only person lying in their pj’s upside down in bed all day. Apparently, I’m not allowed to waste my life away doing nothing so I had to find something to do. My mom was the one who first got me into entrepreneurial stuff. Back in November 2019, my school held an autumn market and I sold handmade scrunchies. It was so rewarding seeing a customer that was happy with their purchase. That moment made me realize how much I loved being a young entrepreneur.

“I’ve always had a passion for decorating … I’m still not sure whether I have more fun coming up with new products and designs, or seeing the finished product displayed in my room, but I do know that I really love seeing people around me happy so I really hope that you enjoy making these craft kits.”

You can see how the kits look in the photo attached to this story.
