COVID-19 cases piling up at this Burnaby outbreak site

Fraser Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Agecare Harmony Court Estates in Burnaby, which has seen cases grow at a rapid rate.

Harmony Court has cases at two areas, independent living and the care centre.

The independent living area has seen eight residents test positive for COVID-19, with three ending up in hospital, according to a notice sent to families and provided to the NOW. Two staff have also test positive.

In the care centre, one resident has tested positive and three staff members.

This follows a resident at George Derby Centre in Burnaby testing positive for the virus, according to Fraser Health.

“Enhanced control measures have been put in place at each site. Fraser Health is working with staff to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families,” said a Fraser Health news release.

A resident at Finnish Manor tested positive for COVID-19. Finnish Manor is a long term care facility in Burnaby that is owned and operated by Jubilee Multi-Generational Housing Society.

Fraser Health has also been dealing with a large COVID-19 outbreaks at Fellburn Care Centre in Burnaby, which has seen more than 50 cases in its outbreak, including more than a dozen staff members testing positive for COVID-19. 

New cases of COVID-19 jumped by 21% in Burnaby last month, as cases in the city have surged since the beginning of September. Cases spiked again in October, with 287 compared to 238 cases in September.
