Richmond and many cities across B.C. will kick off this year’s month-long BC Culture Days on Sept. 25.

BC Culture Days, hosted by the Bridge Society, is one of the province’s largest campaigns to celebrate the each community's arts, culture and heritage each year.

According to BC Culture Days’ website, the event is held every year to raise awareness, participation and the engagement of Canadians in their communities’ art and cultural life.

This year’s theme will look at “unexpected intersections” that highlights “unlikely pairings and unique mashups” of art and culture.

At least 40 events will take place in Richmond during the month including a livestream comic book demonstration, in-person Islamic calligraphy workshop, a self-guided cycling art tour, an art unveiling event and more.

“Artistic expression and creative curiosity are fundamental components of the health and vitality of our communities, especially as we continue to navigate the uncertainty of a global pandemic,” said Nazanin Shoja, manager of BC Culture Days.

“I am incredibly proud of the dedicated, grassroots efforts of our many participating artists and community culture leaders who, like us, believe in the transformative power of the arts.”

Shoja added that they hope BC Culture Days can “foster connect, understanding and healing” for many British Columbians this year.

BC Culture Days will take place from Sept. 25 to Oct. 25.
