With the fall season coming and life returning to regular routines, Canadian Blood Services is encouraging donors to continue to help people in Canada who needs blood.

A blood donation event will be held at Peace Mennonite Church location at 11571 Daniels Rd on Sept. 30 from 1 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

According to Dragana Nikolic, event coordinator at Canadian Blood Services, the event is currently booked at 65 per cent, with about 50 more appointments still available for people to register.

The local community has been supportive of blood donations, even during these challenging times.

But with schools opening and parents returning back to work in this fall, people might forget to come out to support the blood donations, said Nikolic, adding that this year the donation process is a bit different due to COVID-19.

Donors must book appointments online and check their eligibility for donation before coming down to the donation facility in person.

Meanwhile, a series of COVID-19 procedures and protocols have been installed to curb the spread of the virus, including checking donors’ temperature at the entrance and asking them to complete a list of COVID-19 screening questions.

“We kindly ask donors to wear masks. If they don’t have any, we are giving away cloth masks as well. And all donation beds are kept six-feet away from each other.

“Before you donate, please eat well and drink lots of water. The better you eat, the more water you drink, the whole process will be so much easier,” said Nikolic.
