Through a silent auction event, a Richmond resident and her event partners donated $1,000 to a U.S. non-profit that supports advocacy and awareness programs for youths struggling with invisible illnesses.

Marika Lopez, a Richmond resident, and her partners Jamie Stoerp and Lindsey Spray, both from the U.S., hosted a virtual silent art auction that benefited the Illinois-based EPIC Foundation early November.

The proceeds from the auction, titled Silent But Not Invisible, will go towards funding several programs the foundation offers to youths living with invisible illnesses such as anxiety, bipolar disorder, autoimmune diseases, cystic fibrosis and more.

Lopez extends her thanks to all the artists who donated their artwork and others who made contributions to the auction.

“We need to break down the stigmas surrounding the many different invisible illnesses, and with the money that we raised, it will go towards advocacy and awareness programs which can help people with invisible illnesses tell their story,” said Lopez.

“By helping people tell their stories, we are breaking down that stigma and are helping them find fellow advocates who can become a part of their support system.”
