Letters: Dreaming of the quiet life in Richmond

Richmond is considering banning the use of engine brakes.

Dear Editor,

I think it is time for city council to prohibit the use of engine brakes. I live on Westminster Highway and experience an ever-increasing use of those devices.

Our neighbour cities (Vancouver, Delta, New Westminster) have banned engine brakes. Yet here the dump trucks noisily rumbling, snorting and sputtering along the road, while ignoring the little weathered sign on the roadside reading: “PLEASE avoid use of engine brakes in urban areas.”

It definitely has gotten worse in time.

Being on the subject of preventable noise, another menace: Folks who keep a rooster in their backyard, that crows all day, make very selfish and inconsiderate neighbours.

It is okay for people to have chickens for fresh eggs, but that can be done quietly. Please, city council, make the city quieter and more livable.
