When you’ve been out of touch with someone, it makes the reunion all that more special.

That’s what the past few weeks have been like for the staff at Bellissima Fashions in Blundell Centre. They have been busy welcoming back and getting re-acquainted with customers after the store temporarily closed down in mid-March in adherence to the stay-at-home regulations for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since re-opening on May 20, the Richmond location, one of 10 across B.C. and Alberta, has been re-establishing its cornerstone of customer service in unique ways, given the continued requirement for social distancing.

“We temporarily shortened store hours and have taken all recommended precautions, like hand sanitizer, masks, plexiglass at the cash desk, disinfecting high-touch points, steam and disinfect tried on clothing, and the two-metre distancing markers on the floor,” says Della Docking, who has been a supervisorat Bellissima Fashions for the past 36 years.

“We have also implemented a private shop for our clients, who may still be apprehensive or have other health concerns. They can call one of the locations, speak with the manager and make an appointment at the store that works for all.”

That type of accommodation speaks volumes about the level of care and service Bellissima Fashions provides so customers can shop the store’s extensive variety of special occasion, business casual, weekend wear and on-trend accessories.

“We also have several designers, like Joseph Ribkoff and Frank Lyman, that are mostly made in Canada,” Docking adds. “Our core market is generally between the ages of 40 and 60, but we do get younger and older shopping with us as well.”

What also makes Bellissima Fashions stand out in the marketplace is the store’s longevity.

“Bellissima has been around for 45 years as a privately owned, family-run business. Plus, many of our management and staff have been with us at least 10 years or more,” Docking says.

As for what the future holds for the business as we all continue emerging from the restrictions of COVID-19, Docking says Bellissima Fashions will continue to adapt its core values.

“While much has changed over the past few months, what hasn’t changed is our commitment to our clients,” she says. “I believe things can only get better. I think the whole idea is to focus on what can be done, not what you think stands in your way.

“Positivity is the only path to take. That’s what makes everything and everyone grow stronger.”
