Looking for something exciting to do during the spring break holidays, or pretty much any time you’re inspired to get up and go outside?

Tourism Coquitlam has plenty of ideas that its new catch-phrase describes perfectly - Fun Is In Our Nature.

It’s the gateway description to a newly launched website that contains a complete lineup of places and activities to enjoy.

“It’s an in-depth view of what there is to see and do,” said Eric Kalnins, the City’s Tourism Manager. “Whether it’s a staycation for Coquitlam residents or a daytrip from another part of the Lower Mainland, we want people to explore our community.”

And there’s not only so much to do, but a great variety of experiences to enjoy. For example, maybe it’s a hike on the Coquitlam Crunch, a heart pumping outdoor stair-climb trail with a net elevation of 242 metres leading to Westwood Plateau.

Perhaps grab your binoculars or camera and head for Colony Farm Regional Park at the southern end of the city, which is known as one of the best destinations for birdwatching in Metro Vancouver.

Or go down to Town Centre Park for one of the several colourful festivals and sports tournaments just steps from the SkyTrain and walking distance from an array of businesses and fine restaurants.

“It’s our biggest signature park where people can fish, play outdoor foosball, table tennis, or take part in Tai Chi,” Kalnins said. “And it’s five minutes from city centre, Coquitlam Centre and SkyTrain that will get you to the other side of Coquitlam.”

“I like to tell people to connect the dots,” Kalnins said, adding many activity destinations in Coquitlam are located close to an array of other services.

For those seeking indoor pursuits and don’t mind getting wet, the City Centre Aquatic Complex has a wave pool, a water slide, a lazy river and an eight-lane, Olympic-sized pool.

And local businesses also provide plenty of activities, such as the Lower Mainland’s largest, indoor climbing facility at Climb Base5 just off United Blvd.

“A lot of people tend to seek many of these types of activities far afield when we have so much right here in Coquitlam,” Kalnins said. “We want people to explore Coquitlam, and explore local.”
