Letter: Former editor Richard Dal Monte was a class act, made me a News 'devotee'

Richard Dal Monte worked at The Tri-City News for 33 years: as a sports reporter and sports editor, Sunday Magazine editor, general assignment reporter and, finally, as editor for the last 19 years.

The Editor,

It is with sadness I read Richard’s farewell submission.

Aside from being a Coquitlam resident since the ‘70’s, it is specifically during Richard’s tenure that I became a devotee of this community newspaper.

I am the widow of 1990’s columnist John Ford and during the decade of his column (Off the Top) we got to experience first hand the compassion, encouragement and community spirit of Richard. None is more clearly expressed than as in Richard’s note in the forward of John’s last column, his self-written obituary, which ran May 16, 2015.

You are missed Richard. Thank you for all you have done and all you are.

Wishing you all the best in your future.

Sharie Ford, Coquitlam
