There was a new school COVID-19 exposure noted for Nov. 20 at Summit middle in Coquitlam. In Port Coquitlam, an exposure was noted Nov. 12 at Kwayhquitlum middle.

Exposure notices are being posted for Coquitlam-area schools as COVID-19 continues to circulate.

Today (Nov. 26), parents at Summit middle received an early exposure notice for Nov. 20 while parents at Kwayhquitlum middle school got notification of a Nov. 12 exposure.

Previously, the Coquitlam school had exposures on Oct. 13 and 14, and on Nov. 16 and 17 while Kwayhquitlum, in Port Coquitlam, had several exposure dates in October.

Also in recent days, three Coquitlam schools reported multiple COVID-19 exposures: Leigh elementary, Montgomery middle and Centennial secondary.

The majority of parents is sending their children to school, with only about 1,600 students — mostly elementary students — learning at home, according to School District 43.

A school “exposure” usually indicates a single person with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection attended school during their infectious period.

A school “cluster,” on the other hand, indicates possible school-based transmission with two or more lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 attending school while infectious, and an “outbreak” indicates “multiple individuals with lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection” and that “transmission is likely widespread.”
