Tri-Cities realtor puts clients’ needs first

It’s not uncommon for a person’s career path to take a few twists and turns before they find out what sticks. That’s exactly what happened to Wayne Dick, a Tri-Cities realtor who was supposed to be a teacher before finding his dream career that allowed him to help people buy and sell their dream homes.

In 1983, Wayne signed on as an auxiliary firefighter in the Tri-Cities area. Two years later, he became a realtor, selling 25 houses in his first five months in business. When the opportunity to work as a firefighter full-time came up, he had a change of heart, deciding instead to continue on the realtor path while still working as an auxiliary firefighter part-time.

Wayne now runs his real estate firm, Team Wayne Dick with RE/MAX All Points Realty, alongside his daughter, Brittany Dick, who joined in 2007 and has personally been involved in over 900 sales. The team also recently welcomed Holly Power, a newly licensed associate who has been with the team since March 2017.

Quite a lot has changed in the industry since Wayne started back in the ‘80s. “There used to be 4,000 realtors in Greater Vancouver. Now there are 20,000,” he says. While Wayne’s firm is based in the Tri-Cities area, he says 60 percent of his transactions are Tri-Cities-based while 40 percent occur in other parts of the Lower Mainland.

One of the things Wayne loves most about being a realtor is helping people achieve their dreams. “I like helping (clients) get into the market and understand the market,” he says. Wayne also loves the challenge real estate offers: “Last night I finally won my client a house after seven bids.”

For Wayne, being a realtor is about client relationships first, and sales second. Most of his sales are based on past client referrals and he is now working with the children of clients he began relationships with years ago. “(Our philosophy is) looking after client’s need first and building relationships for life. It’s not just selling the house, it’s like a friendship. Because we actually do care,” he says.
