B.C. Culture Days will go ahead this fall with a combination of live and virtual events.

The 11th annual celebration of arts and culture is set to run from Sept. 25 to Oct. 25 with a roster of diverse events that are being set up in a variety of ways to deal with the new realities of COVID-19.

“More so than ever before, fostering connection, understanding and healing through artistic expression is essential to our overall well-being as we navigate these stranger and challenging times,” said B.C. Culture Days manager Nazanin Shoja in a press release. “By expanding this year’s celebration to a full month of innovative partnerships and unconventional mash-ups, we hope even greater numbers of British Columbians will be drawn to experience the transformative power of the arts.”

In Burnaby, the Swedish Heritage B.C. group will be offering a month-long virtual tour of its museum, with information about the early Swedish settlers of B.C. and the multiculturalism within the Swedish community, with Ukrainian Swedes, Estonian Swedes and Swedish Finns.

In New Westminster, the New West Artists group has already registered two events with Culture Days:

  • New West Artists on the Crawl: The New West Artists Gallery on 12th (712C 12th St.) will feature artwork by more than 20 local artists, as well as art demos. That’s set to run Saturday, Oct. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 18 (also in conjunction with the New West Cultural Crawl).
  • Seniors’ Expression Pop-Up Show: In celebration of National Seniors Day Oct. 1, this show will feature work by 10 to 15 senior members of New West Artists, with pre-booked time slots and some live online arts demos. It’s set to run from Thursday, Oct. 1 to Sunday, Oct. 4.

More events will be added as the Culture Days kick-off approaches. The official kickoff to B.C. Culture Days will be a 45-minute virtual event set for Thursday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m.
