You may have heard the well-used phrase, “the name says it all.”

When it refers to the LA Grill and Bistro at Blundell Centre in central Richmond, its name is merely an introduction.

The popular restaurant’s extensive and varied menu tells the whole story.

According to restaurant manager Steve Chan, the family-owned and run eatery was named by his brother K.C. when it opened in 2007 and was intended to evoke an easy, west coast casual dining experience.

The airy and comfortably appointed restaurant space, with room for 70-plus customers, certainly did the job. But then came the menu with its array of choices - from sizeable appetizer plates including calamari, cheese garlic bread and zucchini sticks that are perfect for sharing, to burgers, steaks, souvlaki, pastas and sandwiches.

And every main meal comes complete with sides all at prices that are more fast-food-based than the comfortable sit-down, table service you get at LA Grill and Bistro.

“Great food doesn’t have to cost you a lot of money,” Steve says. “We pride ourselves on being able to provide high-quality meals at a price you may not expect from a restaurant like ours.”

But the value gets better with LA Grill and Bistro’s daily specials where weekdays all lunch items are just $7, with the purchase of a beverage.

Among your choices are: chicken strips, fettuccini alfredo, curry penne or the popular chicken souvlaki.

“The chicken souvlaki is our most popular lunch meal,” Steve says. “It comes with rice, potatoes, Caesar salad, pita bread and tzatziki. Add a drink for under $3, and that’s more competitively priced than a fast food burger place, and you get a restaurant setting.”

At night, the daily specials rotate Monday to Saturday with a six-ounce New York steak kicking things off on Mondays for $10, and a Monday to Saturday special of steak and prawns for just $16.

If you are looking for a late-night, dine-in snack with friends, Monday to Saturday at LA Grill and Bistro features a variety of choices served from 8:30 - 10:30 p.m. priced from $4 for tzatziki and pita, burgers for $6.50, and a shrimp Caesar salad for $9.

“Late nights are great for groups wanting to share plates and have a great time,” Steve says.
