Burnaby hit again as fifth COVID-19 outbreak declared

A new COVID-19 outbreak has been declared in Burnaby, which now makes the fifth outbreak announced in recent days. Agecare Harmony Court Estates in Burnaby has seen at least one COVID-19 exposure, according to Fraser Health.

According to the province, the vast majority of new cases of COVID-19 continues to be in the Lower Mainland, mostly in Fraser Health.

A new COVID-19 outbreak has been declared in Burnaby, which now makes the fifth outbreak announced in recent days.

Agecare Harmony Court Estates in Burnaby has seen at least one COVID-19 exposure, according to Fraser Health.

This follows a resident at George Derby Centre in Burnaby testing positive for the virus, according to Fraser Health.

“Enhanced control measures have been put in place at each site. Fraser Health is working with staff to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families,” said a Fraser Health news release.

Previously, Fraser Health declared two new COVID-19 outbreaks in Burnaby, while announcing the end of another, plus multiple cases at Burnaby Hospital. A resident at Finnish Manor and two staff members at Dania Home have tested positive for COVID-19. Fraser Health has declared outbreaks at these locations, and a rapid response team is at each site. The resident and two staff members are currently in self-isolation at their homes.

Finnish Manor is a long term care facility in Burnaby that is owned and operated by Jubilee Multi-Generational Housing Society. Dania Home is a long-term care facility in Burnaby that is owned and operated by Dania Home Society.

An outbreak at Normanna is now over. Normanna is a long term care facility in Burnaby that is owned and operated by the Norwegian Old People’s Home Association.

Fraser Health has also been dealing with two other COVID-19 outbreaks in Burnaby.

Burnaby’s Fellburn Care Centre in Burnaby has seen more than 50 cases in its outbreak, including more than a dozen staff members testing positive for COVID-19. CTV is reporting there have also been at least four deaths at Fellburn.

New cases of COVID-19 jumped by 21% in Burnaby last month, as cases in the city have surged since the beginning of September. Cases spiked again in October, with 287 compared to 238 cases in September.

• Hawthorne Seniors Care Community long-term care in Port Coquitlam;
• Hawthorne Seniors Care Community assisted living in Port Coquitlam;
• Hollyrood Manor long-term care home in Maple Ridge;
