COVID-19 seems to have popularized advance voting in Squamish’s riding this election.

As of Oct. 21, in West Vancouver-Sea to Sky, 10,422 people have cast ballots in advance voting, Elections BC reports. That’s 24% of the total amount of registered voters.

That number does not include the 7,704 people who have registered for mail-in votes, as those ballots will be counted starting two weeks after election day as part of a measure to prevent fraud.

There are 42,786 people registered to vote in the riding.

In 2017, there were 114 ballots sent in by mail in the Sea to Sky and 7,495 votes in the advance polls. That year there were 39,870 registered voters, and 24,357 cast ballots.

Election day is Oct. 24, but no results are expected for some time, as mail-in votes are expected to be a significant factor.000
