50 flamingos surprise Ladner’s birthday girl

Jody Reid got quite the surprise for her 50th birthday when she found 50 flamingos and a large sign on the front yard of her Savoy Street home last Thursday morning.

Julie Botkin-Cheralley, who has had Jody live with her family for the past dozen years, wanted to make the day special but also compliant with social distancing guidelines, so she hired a company to come during the night to set up the display.

She says Jody was “over the moon” when she saw it the next morning and will never forget her special day.

The flamingos weren’t the only surprise as later in the day family took part in a car parade and a socially distanced party complete with ’80s music (Jody’s favourite) and a flamingo ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.

Jody has been an Optimist carrier since 2008.
