Delta Nature presents Pink Mountain: A story of biodiversity, conflict and success with Ron Longon Tuesday, Nov. 6.The biodiversity on Pink Mountain seems to be unmatched in B.C. but is threatened by industrial development. The free presentation takes place at 7:30 p.m. at Benediction Lutheran Church in Tsawwassen.

 

South Delta Newcomers Club welcomes Joni Wright and Debbi McKenzie to its Thursday, Nov. 15 meeting to talk about how the Little House Society addresses substance use disorder issues for individuals, families, youth, senior, small businesses, large employers and the community at large. Meeting starts at 7:15 p.m. at the Kiwanis Longhouse, 1710-56th St., Tsawwassen.

 

Ambassadors-Tsawwassen Mills Toastmasters Club meets every second, third and fourth Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Next meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 13. Come for a fun, lively evening and listen to three amazing speeches. Club meets at the Tsawwassen Mills Training Room (enter at Entrance 4, turn left past Old Navy and it's located on the left between Yogibo and Karma Athletics. Ambassadors always welcomes guests. The Canadian Federation of University Women South Delta meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Benediction Lutheran Church, 5575-6th Ave., Tsawwassen, at 7:15 p.m. With monthly guest speakers and interest groups, the club is dedicated to the promotion of education and improvement of the status of women. Do you enjoy knitting or crochet? Would you like to get together with like-minded people to share ideas, techniques and good conversation? Knit & Stitch is offered at all three Delta libraries. It runs Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Ladner Pioneer Library, Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. at Tsawwassen Library and Fridays from 2 to 4 p.m. at George Mackie Library. All ages and abilities are welcome. 

 

Family Games Afternoon runs every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Dec. 8 at the Tsawwassen Library. Unplug and reconnect with your family by playing board games. Enjoy one of the many games provided by the library or bring your favourites.

 

Lego Club runs every Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Tsawwassen Library until Nov. 14. Lego Club is a fun afternoon program for kids. Lego provided. Children under five must be accompanied by an adult.

 

Want to practice your Spanish? Intermediate level Spanish conversation meetings take place in South Delta every Tuesday at 7 p.m. They alternate between the Tsawwassen and Ladner Pioneer libraries. For more information call Aidan at 604-256-4412.

 

The Knitting Sisters, who knit and crochet for charities, meet as a drop-in from 10 a.m. to noon on the first and third Saturdays of the month at McKee Seniors Recreation Centre in Ladner. Cyclists who would like to ride with others can meet at the Ladner Pioneer Library parking lot Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. The ride is especially suited for reasonably fit, mature cyclists but everyone is welcome. Contact Bob at 604-943-1603 for more information.

 

Delta Hospice Society offers a Drop-In Relaxation Circle, led by a music therapist, for those living with cancer or serious illness, as well as their family members and friends, every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Cres., Ladner. Program is complimentary.

 

The Canadian Lifeboat Institution is interviewing potential volunteers to serve as crew or support personnel for its Delta Lifeboat. Professional training is given in seamanship, navigation, medical, and search and rescue techniques. Contact John at 604-760-5218 for more information.

The Kee Café opens Monday, Nov. 5at Ladner’s McKee Seniors Recreation Centre. Come by and enjoy a meal and meet the new chef.

 

Const. Leisa Schaefer of the Delta police will be talking to seniors at Ladner Pioneer Library on Thursday, Nov. 8 from 2 to 3 p.m. to share important information to prevent common frauds and scams. Light refreshments will be served. 

 

There will be a flu clinic from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, Nov. 9 at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen. Bring your Care Card and photo ID.

 

A Modelers Club meets at McKee Seniors Recreation Centre Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Members build models of all scales, discuss the hobby, and share tips and secrets. Members must have a current McKee membership.

 

McKee Seniors Recreation Centre is hosting a special holiday luncheon on Friday, Nov. 30 from noon to 2 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Liz & Steve. Tickets on sale Nov. 5. Members are $14; non-members are $16.

 

McKee Seniors Recreation Centre is hosting a wine and cheese concert with Delta Music Makers on Sunday, Dec. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. Tickets on sale Nov. 19. Members are $7, non-members are $9.

McKee Seniors Recreation Centre is holding a Christmas Day luncheon on Tuesday, Dec. 25. Doors open at 11 a.m. Delicious hot turkey meal. Members cost $13, non-members are $15.

Hospice Cottage Charity Shoppe, 1521-56th St., Tsawwassen, offers a great selection of small Christmas trees, books, decorations, holiday outfits and ugly Christmas sweaters. Also a great selection of snow wear for men, women and children.

 

SPECIAL EVENTS

 

Sacred Heart Church is hosting its annual Christmas Market on Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sacred Heart School gym. They will have their fabulous regular events: tea room, home baking, children's corner, raffles, home-made crafts, collectibles and new this year is a hand bag collection. Everyone is warmly welcomed.

 

How do we know online information is true, unbiased and relevant? TheGeorge Mackie Library hosts Fact vs Fiction: Delta Fake News Spotlight, a panel discussion on Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Panelists include Optimist reporter Ian Jacques.

 

Baha’i Faith of Deltainvites the public to a celebration of the Birth of The Bab and Baha’u’llah, the founders of the Baha’i Faith, on Saturday. Nov. 10. Dave Stevens and Diane Reid Stevenslaunch their third alphabet book, Eccentric Earthlings A-Z, at the Ladner Pioneer Library on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Their latest book shows an array of intriguing land creatures. Their first book, Weirdly Wonderful A-Z, presents water creatures and Amazing Airborne A-Z describes and illustrates flying creatures. All the books combine cartoon illustrations with facts and realistic drawings.

The 17th annual Light of Remembrance service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. at Cedar Park Church in Ladner. All are welcome to attend and honour the loss of a loved one. ARTS

 

The Vancouver Orpheus Male Choir will perform a concert at Ladner United Church on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. Choir focuses on popular songs from many times and lands, including Broadway show tunes, spirituals, sea shanties and rousing male voice classics. The show is part of the Sunday @3! concert series. Admission costs $10.

 

Langley Ukulele Ensemble will stage a Christmas concert at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2. Admission by donation.

 

If you love music and have a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument, then join Loades of Music Concert Band. Share the joy of making music with other adult musicians. Annual fee is $50 with regular attendance and home practice encouraged. Cultivate a love of playing band music every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Saviour Lutheran Church, 4737-57th St., Ladner.
